Translating Design Systems from Figma to Compose

Session Description:

Many apps have their own design language and systems that they need to adhere to in order to offer consistency across platforms. Google has open-sourced its design system, Material Design, however, as apps and teams scale, it eventually becomes beneficial to implement own design system. In this talk drawn from my experience, I will go through how to practically implement a custom design system from FIGMA to Android using Compose. The talk guides you to understanding design tokens, extending Material Design, and implementing a custom design system away from Material. In addition, we’ll cover some things to consider when implementing a custom design system and key takeaways in building one.
