What About The Rest of Us? The Polyglots
Session Description:
The good, the ugly, and everything in between when mastering multiple stacks (at least trying to). We ship code for clients. To build solutions. Sometimes, we, the engineers, are lucky to be the clients and have a bit more wiggle room to build in our favorite frameworks and languages. A lot of times though, there are more variables to consider. Is it an existing solution in another language? How complex is the solution? Is the rest of the team fluent in that language? How much scalability do we expect? What is the budget? What about support and patches? These factors often push us into unexplored areas of programming and often new languages. While this versatility can be a great chance for a great deal of tinkering (we love that, no?), the journey is fraught with challenges. This talk delves into the realities of working with multiple stacks, exploring the benefits, pitfalls, and strategies for success. From balancing different paradigms to overcoming learning curves, I will share practical insights and lessons I've learned so far.
